Pretreatment is a fabric-preparation stage and formulation system used to control wetting, ink spreading, pigment localization, surface charge and application uniformity before printing. A binder is a polymer whose main job is to form a film that physically anchors pigment particles to the textile after curing. Depending on the ink architecture, binder may be present in the ink, in a pretreatment or post-treatment system, or reduced through specialty pigment technology.
