A printing mill may approve a sodium alginate, CMC, CMS or compound thickener after laboratory and production trials, but the commercial value of that approval depends on whether future batches continue to perform within an acceptable operating window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-498a6fc7\">This is why quality should not be reduced to a statement such as \u201cevery batch is tested.\u201d Effective batch control requires a connected system that begins with raw materials and continues through manufacturing, in-process checks, laboratory testing, application verification, batch release, packaging, documentation and traceability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-de910099\">Quality Control, or QC, identifies whether materials and finished batches meet defined requirements. Quality Assurance, or QA, builds the procedures and controls intended to prevent unacceptable variation from occurring in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-wd-paragraph wd-a27af4c0\">Both are necessary. Testing without process control may detect a problem only after a batch has already been produced.
