Carboxymethyl Starch (CMS)

FINSIN® CMC, as good emulsifier, stabilizer, thickener…

Carboxymethyl Starch (CMS)

FSX Chemical ® Textile Auxiliary Grade CMS is a white or slightly yellowish, free-flowing powder. It is an anionic polymer that dissolves in cold water to form a viscous, colloidal solution. The degree of substitution (DS) and polymerization is carefully controlled during our manufacturing process to ensure consistent performance characteristics, including viscosity, water retention, and film-forming ability. It serves as a robust and reliable workhorse thickener for textile printers looking to optimize costs while maintaining quality standards, especially in the domain of polyester printing.

Introduction

Carboxymethyl Starch (CMS) from FSX Chemical is a modified natural polymer, an etherified starch derivative engineered as a cost-effective and high-performance alternative to traditional thickeners in textile printing. It is particularly effective for disperse dye printing on polyester fabrics and in certain applications with reactive dyes where cost-efficiency is paramount. Our CMS combines the economic advantages of starch with the functional benefits of carboxymethylation, resulting in a product with improved solubility, viscosity stability, and film-forming properties.

Functional Property

  • Cost-Effective Thickening: Provides a highly economical thickening solution, offering a significant cost advantage over plant-gum-based thickeners like guar or tamarind, without a major compromise on performance in suitable applications.
  • Good Color Yield with Disperse Dyes: Specifically formulated to yield strong and bright colors when used as a thickener for disperse dye printing on synthetic fabrics such as polyester.
  • Sharp Print Definition: Forms a smooth printing paste with good flow properties, enabling the reproduction of fine lines and detailed patterns with acceptable sharpness.
  • Easy Wash-out: The carboxymethyl groups enhance its solubility in water, ensuring that the thickener is easily and thoroughly removed from the fabric during the washing process, leading to a satisfactory handfeel.
  • Stable Viscosity: Our CMS demonstrates good viscosity stability in neutral to alkaline conditions, ensuring a consistent application throughout the printing process.
  • Eco-Friendly Profile: As a modified starch, it is derived from a renewable resource and is readily biodegradable, positioning it as a sustainable choice for textile mills.

Packing and Storage

Packing: FSX Chemical’s CMS is supplied in 25kg net weight, polypropylene (PP) woven bags, known for their durability and puncture resistance. An integral polyethylene (PE) film liner is included to safeguard the product from ambient humidity and environmental contaminants.

Storage:

  1. Store in a sheltered, dry, and clean warehouse environment. Maintain ambient temperature and avoid drastic fluctuations.
  2. The product is moderately hygroscopic; stacking pallets more than two high is not recommended for long-term storage to prevent compaction of the bottom bags.
  3. Keep separate from substances with strong odors, as the product may absorb them. During transport, ensure the packaging is protected from rain and mechanical damage.
  4. The guaranteed shelf life for this industrial-grade product is 24 months from the date of production, provided it is stored correctly in its unopened original packaging.
